Ice Maidens [21 Jul 2008|09:40am]

grainya
Dunno if anyone is in my area (Pittsburgh, PA). But I figured I'd post anyway. Robert Morris has a women's learn to play hockey program called the Ice Maidens (http://www.rmuislandsports.org/activities/hockey-pages/hockey/ice-maidens.aspx). I'm signing up for the fall session that starts in October, which I'm crazy excited about.

I've played some pick-up street hockey with the boys, but I haven't really gotten to play a lot. I've got zero gear, so I've been hitting up ebay for most of it, and hockeymonkey.com for the rest. For people that have been playing longer, we've also got 3 women's ice hockey leagues in the area.

Should be interesting, I'll let you all know how it goes!

I have signed up for the Elite Hockey Camp from July 11-13 at Dartmouth but I can't go. The only way I can get my money back is to find someone else. It normally costs $375, but I'm open to negotiations. Just comment back.

Equipment [05 Jun 2008|09:51pm]

I'm not sure if this community is still alive, but I have a question in regards to equipment made specifically for women. Are there any benefits in women shoulder pads, shin pads, and pants? Thanks!

Getting skates back in shape [14 Oct 2007|09:48pm]

saralinda
Hi all,

What is the quickest or best way to get a stiff pair of skates back into pliable shape? My Bauers are stiff as cardboard because I haven't worn them in 2+ years, and I might be joining a league next week.

I'm really hoping the answer isn't just "wear them a lot," because these things are cutting into my ankle like you wouldn't believe (they are goalie skates).

Thanks for any advice,
Saralinda

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to LJ and was thrilled to see that there's a women's hockey community. I'm 26 and have been playing hockey for 21 years with both guys and girls teams. I'm from Ontario (the Toronto area), but will be moving to Vancouver Island in June. I'm hoping to find a team to play for in Nanaimo or Victoria, so if anyone knows of a team please let me know.
Thanks,
Sarah

Women's shoulder pads [27 Jan 2006|10:43am]

residentgeek
Hey all. I'm looking for some hockey equipment advice.

The shoulder pads I have right now aren't working out so well. Every time I raise my arms, I get choked. I can't get the damn things to stay where they belong. And every time I do a face plant, I compress my chest way beyond what I thought was physically possible. So I'm looking into buying some women's shoulder pads, specifically Itech.

The problem is, no one locally within 250 miles sells these. So I have no way to try them on and find out what size I need. And not even Itech's site has sizing information. So I was hoping you all could help me out.

Can anybody give me shoulder measurements of these pads? A chest measurement would be awesome too. Right now I'm in men's adult small pads, and I think it's my chest that's making them not fit right. I'm about a C I think (not huge, not tiny). But I don't know if I should get a size small or medium with these pads.

Any help you all could provide would be great. Even to tell me that the pads suck and they're not worth my time or money.

Looking For Skaters [19 Aug 2005|12:00am]

Figured I'd throw this out there, just in case there's anyone in my area looking for a team!

I am a member of the NH Sr. Lady Monarchs, and we are looking for new members to help fill out our second squad. If you are interested, or know of someone who might be, go to Senior Lady Monarchs and check us out! You can email the team manager right from the website.

Thanks a bunch!

Happy skating!

I was wondering if anybody on here knew of a women's team (preferably around B level) in the Mankato/St. Peter (Minnesota) area. I'm new to the area and all I've found is coed, which while still awesomely hockey, isn't quite as satisfying. Thanks!

Question [06 Jul 2005|01:57pm]

I was wondering how many of you actually wear pelvic protectors. I know they're recommended, but they're also fairly difficult to find. What do you think? Worth it or not?

Hey!
I'm a newbie hereeee... so I decided to make a little post on myself! :). I'm Lorraine.. i'm 17.. soon to be 18.. i've been playing hockey for 11 years. I played boys hockey for Rochester Youth Hockey growing up because they didn't have any girls teams. I switched to girls 4 years ago I played Rochester Edge U16B for 2 years, and played Webster Hockey last year. This year I played again for Rochester Youth Hockey in Rochester,NY. I was on the U19AAA Rochester Edge Girls Team and we competed in the Southwest Girls Hockey League of Ontario Canada playing teams such as Brampton, Hamilton, Niagara, etc. I plan on playing Womens League next year because i'm not going to a college that has womens hockey at it. Well.. thats me I guess. hahaha.. Talk to you all soon!!

Hey everyone, I'm a newbie here too. I've been a huge hockey fan since I was 12 (I'm now 22), but never knew how to skate, so any participation of the sport consisted of driveway hockey on foot or floor hockey in gym class. I transferred to Rutgers University in New Jersey in the fall and halfway through the year decided that if I was going to play hockey, now would be my best chance with the school having a women's club team. I have finally gotten the hang of skating forward and turning, but I can't stop yet or skate backwards. Now that the semester is over I can work on my skating so that I'm ready for the fall.

Just wanted to say hi to everyone and see if there was anyone in N.J. here who knew of any opportunities for someone like me to learn more and get some ice time. Thanks!

Newbie! [16 May 2005|09:04pm]

storm_13
hey I've just joined the community... I'm a female hockey player (obviously), living and playing in Streatham, London. I started out playing with the boys, but changed to women's hockey when they all got too big and fast to keep up with! I'm now in my second season with the women's team (streatham storm), and am assistant captain. We've had a great season, being the only unbeaten team in our league (division 1 south), and so have gained promotion to the national premier league (yeay!!). No playoffs for us, apparently there was nowhere in the whole *country* where they could find enough ice time for women's playoffs - that's how dire the hockey situation is in England :(. Erm, I've also just started playing for the south of england women's team, and hope to progress from there to England and maybe even GB in a few season's time... anyhow.. that was my little introduction. Oh, and I love hockey more than anything in the world!!!

Newbie [21 Apr 2005|11:10pm]

I just found this community. It's exactly what I've been looking for.

I played roller hockey in high school (rec league). I was the only girl on the team. After putting up with the idiocy of my teammates for too long, I quit playing. I really didn't have any other options since there are no women's teams in my area and I couldn't get on another team.

I'm picking it back up now. This time I'm trying ice hockey. I'll start playing in the adult rec league in September. Right now I'm taking ice skating lessons to help with the transition from roller to ice. It's been interesting. There are a few other women in the adult league so I'm not as worried about the idiots this time.

Anyway... hi :o)

Hi I don't know if there are to many canadians here, but i play in the NWHL in ontario for the last 2 seasons and will be going to play at a university next year but not sure which one at the moment. I'm 18 years old. I think this is a great community where everyone can come and talk about hockey.

Hi, I'm Asico. I've been playing hockey since I was 15 (am 18 currently) and I'm going to be a coach. I started out playing left wing, ended up centering the V fourth-liners on penalty kills, and switched to goalie my junior year because ours quit. Played goalie for Varsity last year, loved it (even though we lost all but one game), and am currently working on skating so I can switch back to forward for my college team next year. Of course, since I'm obsessive and have the tendency to coach at people, I generally rant at length about each game... So, consider yourselves warned ^_^;

Also, if anyone in the Midwest (specifically Minnesota) can recommend a good summer camp, I'd be very thankful.

I just stumbled across this community. I've been playing girls and women's hockey for 11 years. Now I'm on Carleton College's club team (WHAC) I love hockey and I'm sad that I don't have them time and money to play over the summer and I can't wait to get back to the MN and the ice in the fall.
